The Artist Jonathan Herbert in Somerville MA 1973

Photo of Jonathan Herbert in 1973 during his tenure at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Steven was one of my best friends from Valley Stream South High School; he was at Tufts while I was a SMFA. He went on to be a quirky pediatrician in Ann Arbor and I went on to be me.

My Earliest Known Oil: 1972

John Carlsson (722o_01) 20 x 20 inches oil on canvas

John was my best friend at the Museum School in the years I knew him he uttered perhaps 100 words. We spe3nt  an awful lot of time in his 1965 Mustang, just riding around drinking cans of cheap local beer by the dozens and throwing the empties over our shoulders. The whole back seat and footwell was filled to shoulder height with them. He hailed from Marlborough, home of the famous Motif Number One.
